ΑΤΤΙCA SERVICES
ATTICA RESIDENTIAL HOUSES
The Society operates two hostels in Attica (operating until 2008 in Southern Athens and having moved recently to new buildings at the Northern suburbs of Vrilissia and Melissia). The Hostels operate since 2002 within the framework of the Psychargos Programme and house 15 people each. The members of the Hostel were previously hospitalized at the Psychiatric Hospital of Attica (Dafni).
The basic aim of the therapeutic team of the Hostels is improving the quality of life of their members as well as their social and employment rehabilitation. In addition, the therapists work with the members in order to assist them in their emotional development and ensure the creation of equal relations with their housemates. Ensuring that the members respect each other is important, as each member has differing and potentially conflicting needs.
Each patient follows a tailor - made therapeutic plan which is unique for each member. At the same time the members are encouraged to participate in group activities. In addition, in – service training is provided for the therapists, in order to be able to respond to the multi-level needs of the patients, which constantly change as they develop.
PROTECTED APARTMENTS
Six semi-autonomous apartments operate in the areas of Kallithea and Nea Smirni which house 3-5 patients each, with a larger capability for autonomous living. The people who live in the apartments undertake the financial management and handle the everyday requirements of running the apartment. They themselves manage the relationship between them and with members of the local community. The role of the therapeutic team is to support them in a discreet way. The therapists help the members handle issues relating to their future, their employment rehabilitation, as well as their relations with the opposite sex.
VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION
The operation of the workshops is targeted towards patients who live in Attica and who are not ready to attend a Day Centre, get training in working within a set time frame, follow rules and work in a team. The basic aim is the development of their relations and their skills and for them to experience the satisfaction derived from producing a work. The Workshops include a Pottery Class, a Gardening Class, a Cooking Class, a Journalism / Newspaper Class, a Photography Class and an Art Therapy Class (including Drawing lessons, Jewellery Workshop and Gift Workshop). Therapists from all the Structures work at the Workshops.
